You should be able to trust a recommendation. Here’s how we decide what makes it onto PNW Acquainted, and the rules we hold ourselves to.
What we cover
We focus on Washington and Oregon, mostly the Seattle and Portland areas, and we favor independent, locally owned businesses and community-run organizations. We’d rather tell you about one place we’d genuinely send a friend than ten we haven’t checked.
How places make our guides
- Every place is checked against its own website and recent local coverage to confirm it’s open, and where it is, before it’s published.
- We only include details we can confirm. If we can’t verify hours or prices, we leave them out and link to the source.
- Guides show the month they were last updated, and we revisit them regularly.
- No one pays to be included in a guide, a profile or our events calendar.
People features
Features are free. Business owners answer our questions in their own words; we edit lightly for length and clarity and send a note before anything is published. Being featured is never tied to buying anything from us or from anyone else.
Events and Get Involved
Events and volunteer opportunities are verified with the organizer or venue, and we re-check them every month. Plans change, so we always link to the official page and ask that you confirm details with the organizer before you go.
Sponsorships
We may work with sponsors to keep PNW Acquainted running. Sponsored content will always be clearly labeled “Sponsored,” and sponsorship never affects which places, people or events we recommend. See Partner with us.
Photos
Photos are credited. Some come from the people we feature, with permission; others come from free-to-use libraries like Unsplash, credited to the photographer.
Corrections
If something is wrong or out of date, we want to know. Tell us what to fix and we’ll update it quickly.
Our independence
PNW Acquainted is edited by Leeah Murray, who also runs Meraki & Co., a digital studio. Meraki & Co. clients don’t get special treatment here, and if we ever feature one, we’ll say so.
