How did you get started on your journey to become a brand photographer in Portland Oregon?
I dreamed of becoming a photographer as a child which was put on hold throughout my young adult life as I raised my family. When my youngest started kindergarten, I decided to go back to school to get my degree in Commercial Photography and started my business shortly after graduating.
Was this business the first business you’ve started? If not, what was your first business?
Yes, it’s the first business I’ve started!
What has been your biggest takeaway thus far on your journey as a brand photographer?
Balancing work and home life, especially since I mostly work from home!
How do you motivate yourself to keep going and growing, when you feel like giving up?
I remember that I’m following my dream and that I’m on the path that I’m supposed to be on – and that my kids are watching me on that path!
What has been your biggest lesson on your entrepreneur journey?
To trust my gut and stay true to myself. There are so many directions to go in, but I’ve learned to listen to my intuition – it really has never led me astray!
If you could share one truth with your fellow business owners and entrepreneurs, what would it be?
That you have to spend money to make money! This has been the hardest truth for me to accept!
What sets your business Brighter Day Photography apart from others like yours?
I truly am invested in my clients’ dreams for their businesses. I love to see other entrepreneurs succeed because I know how hard they’ve worked to get where they are. I have a way of capturing the essence of their brand and personality. I also have a quick turnaround time – which is important in this industry!
What do you value the most about your local community?
I love that everyone supports each other and loves to shop local whenever they can!
Do you or would you like to support other entrepreneurs? If so, how?
One thing that I love about my business is that I get to support entrepreneurs everyday! The images that we create together help their business grow and attract their dream clients!
What’s the most significant way a local business can impact their community and why is it important?
The most significant way a local business can impact their community is to support other local businesses. Outsourcing our needs to other entrepreneurs in our community helps create a thriving local economy!
What do you love most about your community in Portland Oregon?
I love the diversity and sense of family in my community!
When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy doing projects around our house with my kids, and taking my pups on walks!
Where would you escape to for a day trip on your day off?
The Oregon coast! The beach is where I go to renew my soul and re-align my perspective.
If you had family or friends visiting, where would be the top 3 places you’d take them for food?
Mikiko Mochi Donuts, Jade Teahouse, and Portland City Grill.
When friends or family visit, what is on the itinerary for sight seeing or activities?
A waterfall hike in the Gorge, lunch in Sellwood, and a trip to the beach!
