Weaving Time: NUNO at Portland Japanese Garden

03 October 2026

Tokyo textile studio NUNO, led by design director Reiko Sudō, pairs traditional Japanese weaving and dyeing with modern materials, and this exhibition shows how. Fabrics made with small community workshops across eight regions of Japan fill the Pavilion Gallery, along with site-specific installations and a touch wall that invites you to handle the cloth. In the Tanabe Gallery, bamboo-framed folding screens made with woodworker Chūzō Tozawa carry rain-themed fabric. Pair it with a quiet winter walk through the garden.
