What services or products does your business, Passion Focused LLC offer?
Nutrition guidance, health coaching and behavioral changes to make this a lifestyle – not a diet.
How did you get started on your entrepreneurial journey to become a Nutritionist in Tacoma Washington?
I became a health coach over 5 years ago representing as a health coach for a MLM product diet. While doing this “diet” I realized there was so much more I needed to understand about the human body and how we can heal ourselves outside a diet mentality. I enrolled in school and became a certified nutritionist and built a business around the education of food and how we can heal ourselves with things that grow and water!
Was this business as a Nutritionist the first business you’ve started? If not, what was your first business?
No this was not my first business. My first business was actually started in 1997 and was a lotion and bath salt business. I have owned and operated several businesses through the years. All fueling my ability to support my children as a single parent.
What has been your biggest takeaway thus far on your entrepreneur journey?
My biggest take away would be that money does not buy you happiness. There isn’t enough money on the planet to give you back the time you lost with your family. If you work so hard for the mighty dollar, your family grows up and leaves to go on their own journey. Give more at home than you do at work.
How do you motivate yourself to keep going and growing, when you feel like giving up?
I motivate myself to keep going and growing forward because I am finally living “in” my dream. Not working towards it. Every day is a new day to help someone. To give more than I receive. Helping 1 person to learn to live healthy in their life and give up the self hatred of their image gives them freedom for a future of unlimited options.
What has been your biggest lesson on your entrepreneur journey?
My biggest lesson would be not every business will work. And that is ok. Just do not tie your families future to your end goal. Make sure you leave room to grow forward. And if it just doesn’t seem to be working, move on. Find the path that does work.
If you could share one truth with your fellow business owners and entrepreneurs, what would it be?
My one truth is definitely do not make your business more important than your family. Love is a good thing to have in your life. Money will not give this to you. Trust me. Never was I more lonely in my life than when I was making more money than we could spend.
What exciting things are coming up in your business?
The exciting things that are coming up is my continued education toward nutrition. My growing options for my clients.
What sets your business apart from others like yours?
My business is different from others because I am doing this from my heart. Not as my livelihood. I help people learn to dream again. Not live in “wishes”.
What do you value the most about your local community?
My local business community has helped many things I needed done around my home. I love local businesses and love supporting those that make my life easier so I can continue to work towards the things that fuel my spirt and soul.
Do you or would you like to support other entrepreneurs? If so, how?
I will always support others. If to listen to their business plans, help them see the holes in their focus and help them build the future. Many people start or buy a business thinking because they did it as a job they can own the business. That is not the case. Running a business, building a business, and supporting your staff are THE MOST important parts of being a business owner. NOT watching your bank account.
What’s the most significant way a local business can impact their community and why is it important?
Local business is so important because America was built on dreams. Large corporations have taken away the American dream. It is easy to be employee #1234. But to what end? If your dream is to be a self help author, then be that. If your dream is to provide health to those around you, then do that. If your dream it to help a business understand their branding – then people, be THE BEST at what you dream of.
What do you love most about your community?
I love the support and the growth I get to be part of.
When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing?
When I am not working I love spending time with my handsome husband. The man that took me on, baggage and children, and learned to be the man that could share in my life. Giving me the freedom to go for it.
Where would you escape to for a day trip on your day off?
I actually love the Tacoma waterfront in the middle of the week. I like to take a book or two, a cooler of soda water and my chair and find a place I can sit and read, enjoy the birds and the water.
If you had family or friends visiting, where would be the top 3 places you’d take them for food?
LOL that is easy Katie Downs on the Tacoma Waterfront (21 and older) Odin Brewery (great food) Cole Bar & Grill (small, local bar & grill with a great staff wanting to connect).
When friends or family visit, what is on the itinerary for sight seeing or activities?
For me, anything NOT in Seattle. I love walking on the Vashon Ferry and riding across and coming back. The Point Defiance Zoo is an incredible place any time of the year. My husband unit took me there for our 3rd date!
