SUMMARY:Carkeek Park Salmon Celebration
DESCRIPTION:From late October into early December\, chum salmon\, and a few coho\, push up Piper's Creek in Carkeek Park to spawn\, right inside city limits. The annual celebration on the Saturday before Thanksgiving is the best day to see them\, with naturalists along the creek\, family activities and Spanish translators on site. Parking at the park is very limited\, so use the free shuttle from behind the QFC on Holman Road or Viewlands Elementary\, or walk in along the Piper's Creek Trail. Nearby\, EarthCorps runs a Trees for Salmon art event from 11 to 2.

SUMMARY:Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Sunday after Thanksgiving belongs to Seattle's hometown marathon\, now the UW Medicine Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon. Thousands of runners and walkers work off the holiday meal on a course through downtown and along the water\, with a finish on the waterfront. Even if you aren't registered\, it's a fun morning to stand on a corner with a coffee and a cowbell. The Kids Marathon runs the day before\, on Saturday\, Nov. 28\, for younger runners who've been logging miles all fall. Expect street closures downtown both mornings.
