Seattle Portrait Photographer Becky Fuller has turned her passion into a rewarding and exciting full time job creating stunning senior portraits.  Choosing a senior portrait photographer is an important decision, as these photos often serve as a special keepsake and memories of your high school years. It’s important to find a photographer who is able to capture your unique personality and style, and who has the technical skills to produce high quality photos.

What services or products does your business, Becky Fuller Photo offer?

I am a portrait photographer specializing in high school senior portraits

How did you get started on your Entrepreneur Journey as a Seattle portrait Photographer?

I first picked up a camera around age 11 and quickly fell in love with photography. I practiced for many years photographing my pets and local landscapes in Southern Oregon where I grew up. When I was in high school, I started a side business taking on senior portrait sessions and continued to do after I moved to Seattle for college. After doing a bit of post-college-graduation soul searching, I decided to make my dreams come true by launching a legit senior portrait photography business and jumping in full time. And I am so glad I did!

Was this business the first business you’ve started? If not, what was your first business?

Yes, this is my first business!

What has been your biggest takeaway thus far on your entrepreneur journey?

To trust myself and my expertise. Right before I quit my 9-5 job to take the leap into full-time photography, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to book consistently and my business would fail. After putting in lots of hard work, I am proud to now be at the point where my services are often booked out for months. Trusting in myself, my skills, and my experience is what got me to this outcome.

How do you motivate yourself to keep going and growing, when you feel like giving up?

I enjoy every part of my job, but when my workload is heavy and I am starting to feel burnt out, I give myself grace and time off. Keeping this balance is key. When I am refreshed after taking some time away, even if it’s just a day, I come back to my work with a new sense of excitement and gratitude.

What has been your biggest lesson on your entrepreneur journey?

To pursue the types of photography that brings me the most joy and to prioritize growth and learning.

What exciting things are coming up in your business?

For the past 10 years I’ve shot primarily outdoors using natural light. I’ve always wanted to master studio lighting and have begun to take steps toward this goal. I hope to offer studio shoots in the near future, and I hope it will be a popular option, especially during the cold and rainy season here.

What sets your business apart from others like yours?

I love to photograph seniors as they are and make the entire process as easy as possible for the senior and their family. I encourage seniors to showcase their own style and personality in their photos and not feel compelled to change how they look due to societal norms. As a non-binary person myself, I do not use gendered language in my business or place expectations on how my clients show up and how they want to be seen.

What do you value the most about your local community in Seattle Washington?

I absolutely love that the local photographer community here in Seattle prioritizes community over competition. Whenever I meet another photographer, either in person or online, we usually end up becoming cheerleaders for each other’s work.

Do you or would you like to support other entrepreneurs? If so, how?

Yes! I love supporting artists, small businesses, and other self-employed people by purchasing their products/services.

When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing?

I love growing flowers, vegetables, and house plants, listening to podcasts, and spending time with my fiancé and our two chihuahuas.

Where would you escape to for a day trip on your day off?

I would most likely take a ferry to the Olympic Peninsula and either go to Port Townsend or drive down 101 along the Hood Canal.

When friends or family visit, what is on the itinerary for sight seeing or activities?

A farmers market/neighborhood walk in Ballard, a hike in the North Cascades or Rainier, and one of my favorite Seattle parks like Discovery Park or Carkeek.
